Joseph is a native of Indiana, with a degree in Fine Arts from Wabash College. He has been active in sport, health, nutrition & fitness from an early age. Nationally competitive in endurance & contact sports, active in outdoor adventure pursuits, community groups, craftsmanship trades, and experienced with animal care, he chose a liberal arts course of study, completing a B.A. in Fine Arts as a Sculptor in 2000.
While studying the human experience through the history of visual communication, from cave markings to contemporary advertising, he enjoyed working physically with materials & processes in the studio the most. He focused his study in both the human figure and our relationships to the spaces around us working in metal, clay, plasters & gathered natural materials.
Life after degree found him returning to his earliest interests in animal experiences, communication and behavior and wide open outdoor places. He began traveling and working as an adventure tour guide in the western US, Coastal Alaska/Canada & Europe. This includes learning to be a pack leader for hundreds of working dogs, serving as their caretaker, nutritionist, vet tech and athletic trainer as well as learning the art of Falconry caring for & training with many different species of hawks, owls and falcons.
After a few falls, the constant journey and active living landed him a chronic back problem. He began a regular yoga practice in 2005 and took a fresh look at his diet. Corrective postures, progressive awareness of breath, steady steps towards strengthening key areas all became an amazing realignment for the mind and body, reworking bad habits in posture and thought that had manifested in unhealthy conditions in soft tissues throughout the body.
It was not until he chose massage therapy school where he received regular treatments that he was able to manage and get rid of chronic pains. He now manages a more pain free active life without back problems.
Joe first studied and qualified as a therapist in 2008-2009 with the Holistic College Dublin in Ireland where this small family business has been studying health & wellness since the 80s and now runs a massage school, bodywork treatment & nutrition clinic in Dublin.
He gained UK based certificates in Holistic/Swedish, Hot Stones, Foot / Hand Reflexology & Sports Massage. In 2011-12 he continued in professional development courses with his school in Therapeutic Neck, Back & Shoulder massage for pain. These workshops are based in his instructors’ close work and ongoing training in the US with Waslaski’s orthopedic methods and Dalton’s myo-skeletal approach.
His experience includes working full time the last two years with other spas and chiropractors in Indiana, a self-employed mobile and home practice since 2009 and working thru booking services in mobile, office, hotel, & corporate office wellness plans with visits to companies like Facebook & Google.
Joe is a nationally board certified therapist with licenses in Indiana, California, and Washington State. He is currently focusing his study in the John F Barnes Myofascial Release approach. Completing several workshops this year and the next to gain experience in what the program and its methods have to offer, he is training in cervical, thoracic and pelvic conditions as well as energy work, pediatrics, prenatal and work with animals.
